& thanx 4 the autopsy idea, unfortunately, i’m not even slightly mechanically-inclined.

the whole thing about not wanting it 2 end up in the landfill is this:

if i have this question, then thousands of people have the same question. think of 10′s or 100′s of 1000′s of shredders in the landfills year after year after year. it’s a bigger question than what just 2 do with my 1 broken machine.

going thru the manufacturer will cost as much as a new shredder, which is y i’m looking 4 shops or individuals who can probably fix the problem in minutes. if not, i would think that there is way it can be environmentally recycled. putting it in the trash & hoping 4 the best isn’t good enuf.

once we figure out how 2 solve the problem, the word can be spread, and 1000′s of pounds of pollution can be avoided.

last nite, my patient’s father offered 2 try 2 fix it. i’ll take him up on his offer & let u know.

I’ve taken delivery of a new shredder at work. It’s quite a small one. I’ve only had it a day and already it’s jammed. I accidently put one sheet extra through – my fault, I admit. I’m livid with myself – only 1 day in and I’ve bust the thing!

It is totally jammed now, the paper has torn off and there are bits still stuck in the teeth.

This all happened yesterday. I thought it had overheated, but I’ve put it on today and it still isn’t working. It’s now hidden underneath my desk!

Very embarrassed – is there anything I can do to try and get it working again? Or am I going to have to come clean?

It used to be able to shred 5 sheets at once. Now when I put them all in, It makes a grinding sound and stops a quarter of the way in. I reverse it, take them all out, and put 1 sheet at a time. This works, but it still makes a grinding sound. I opened the top and cleaned out the paper that was stuck inside and oiled it. But it still grinds and only shred’s 1 sheet at a time.

I managed to get all the jammed paper out and the motor seems to be running but the paper will not advance. Did I strip the gears or something so the whole things needs replacement? Seems a shame.
